Baggage
Scheduled airlines such as Air Canada, American, British Airways, etc, have a large checked baggage allowance of 2 pieces, weighing no more 70lbs (32 kg) per piece, 140lbs - total. This will apply to domestic, USA, Transatlantic, and Transpacific tickets. Travel within Europe and within Asia/Africa will have a smaller baggage allowance of 2 pieces, weighing no more than 44lbs (20kg) TOTAL for both bags. If you are connecting through a European or Asian city, and not stopping over, your baggage allowance remains the 2x70lbs. If you are stopping over, you will become subject to the more restrictive baggage allowance. Penalties for excess luggage vary from $5CDN per kilogram in excess, to $40CDN per kilogram in excess, and are enforced intermittently by airlines.

Charter flights, such as Air Transat, Royal, and Skyservice, all retain the smaller baggage allowance of 44lbs (20kg) of checked luggage per person. All airlines permit one carry-on that will fit below the seat in front of you, or in the overhead bin. Airlines have been strongly enforcing the minimum carry on size of late. Some "carry-on" bags sold in luggage stores do not qualify for this size.

If you are connecting on the same airline, your bags will be tagged to your final destination. Unless there are entry requirements, customs inspections, or government security regulations, you will not see your luggage in your connecting point. If you are travelling on an interline connection, flying first with one airline, then another, ask the check in agent if he/she can tag your bags all the way through to your final destination. Most airlines participating on the same ticket offer some form of baggage handling.

If you have non standard size luggage, odd shape checked luggage, boxes, bicycles, pets, or any other deviations from the normal baggage allowance, please contact the airline directly for more information.
