Cruise Information

Packing. Packing for a cruise is dependent upon the itinerary. Warm climate cruises require shorts, golf shirts, tee shirts, two bathing suits, and perhaps a light jacket for a chilly night. Colder climates require that you dress in layers for maximum comfort. You'll need sweaters, light jackets (best if they can double as a raincoat), sweat suits, jeans, shorts, etc. Comfortable footwear is essential on any cruise, including sandals that will not tire your feet out, running shoes, casual shoes, and dress shoes. Ensure that your casual shoes are good for walking in port. In order to minimize you from being a target of crime while in port, it is best to avoid looking too touristy or too rich. Strip down the fancy watches, jewelry, multiple credit cards, wads of cash, and designer apparel while in port. Swap purses for fanny packs, and if you are going to bring a fancy camera, leave the lenses and flashes in your cabin. Everything is cheaper at home, but if you do forget something, the onboard shops and stores in port will have it - so don't get overly stressed. Your carry on should be large enough to contain a quick change of clothes for when you get on board, a couple pairs of underwear, any medications or valuables that you may have, and essential toiletries. Potentially messy toiletries (toothpaste, shaving cream, shampoo) should be placed in ziplock bags. Never pack your passports, wallet, or any identification or documentation in your luggage. If you are travelling with a companion, pack half of your clothes in each other's luggage. In the unlikely event of lost or delayed luggage, at least you won't be "sunk". Travel insurance can be purchased to include lost and delayed luggage, allowing you to purchase items of clothing and get reimbursed. Finding your luggage in a sea of similar looking cases can be frustrating. Try and place some kind of unique identifier on it (a sticker, a coloured ribbon, a unique tag) so you can find it quickly. Your luggage will be taken from you when you board the ship, and you will be required to put it out on the last night of your cruise - so a decent sized carry on is required.
